- Product review

Due to its relative short rallying history, compared to previous Impreza models, there are few lamp pods still in manufacture for the GRB/GVB cars. The Arai pods have a sleek aero design , as they were designed to work with the small diameter IPF 985 lamps. IPF no longer manufacture these lamps, but they can be found 2nd hand or as new old stock. I have 985RD driving lamps on the outside, and 985RS spot lamps on the inside, controlled by separate switches.

Although it is not mentioned, the pods come pre-cut with threaded inserts for the IPF lamps, so fitting other lamps will required extra work.

From the drivers seat the pods are barely visible, so won’t obscure your view. Depending on your country I don’t know whether these pods would pass vehicle inspection, but provided you design your wiring loom to be detachable, removing them won’t be an issue.

Exceptional quality, and perfect fit, I wish all aftermarket parts were made to this standard.

- Installation tips

You will need to drill 4 holes (2 each side) in your bonnet/hood, as there is no other way of attaching them. The front of the pods hook over the front edge of the bonnet, and the bolts then hold them down.

There is no template available for drilling the holes (I checked with Arai Motorsport), so you have to measure multiple times before drilling.

The locations where the holes need to be drilled are double skinned, so if you are using NutSerts you may be able to get away with just drilling the stop surface.

I drilled straight through and used M8 bolts with Nyloc nuts for additional security, otherwise the pods could be removed easily with the bonnet closed.

The cable for the lights is designed to exit from the front corner of each pod, and then tuck under the rubber seal. Some trimming may be required depending n the diameter of the cable you use.
