CR
DEVELOPMENTS Woodham 300 Classic PREAMP
*about US$3,500 new*
The Best Tube Preamp (indeed, best upgrade Component!) I've
owned in Years,
Balanced and Unbalanced Inputs and Outputs and a total of TEN(!) Tubes; ECC-82's
x 5 (RCA Cleartops) and
ECC-83's x 3 (RCA 12AX7A's, early 60's vintage), 12AY7s x 2 (vintage Haltron,
relabelled Black Plate vintage GE's) All changed from the CVC's (UK Chelmer
valves) this came with.
It has a MM Phono stage, YS=Audio tube MC Stepup connects to this and all sounds
just magic through a Marantz 8B.
That makes for 19 Tubes running when it's all fired up, my contribution to
"Global warming"(!) I'd better shift house before the Electricity
bill comes in! I thoroughly recommend this component, it sounds as good as it
looks, and build quality is so good it's old fashioned (reminds me of a Hornby
train Set or a BSA motorcycle) Japan's STEREO SOUND magazine went
"en raveuse" about this Preamp in 1999 and it was voted their "Product
of the Year" against all other products in all other price ranges. I've had quite a
number of McIntosh, Marantz vintage and not-so-vintage Pre's and this is simply
streets ahead at reproducing music
Made in the UK and while not as well known as the Tim Paravicini EAR products
it's every bit as nice IMO
